Engineering Manager, API

About the role

Runway-ml is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead the team responsible for its product platform and API. You will guide a growing group of platform engineers, collaborate with product, finance and engineering teams, and help shape low‑latency, high‑reliability APIs for AI‑powered creation tools.

Key responsibilities

• Define platform strategy and architecture for TypeScript‑based API services, ensuring scalability and code quality.
• Own the public API domain end‑to‑end, driving technical excellence and revenue growth.
• Manage data and analytics infrastructure, guaranteeing data integrity and accessibility across the company.
• Lead and grow a team of 4‑6 platform engineers, fostering a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement.
• Partner with product engineering to unblock feature launches and ensure seamless integration between front‑end and back‑end.
• Maintain critical data pipelines and metrics that inform finance, support, and product decisions.

Required profile

• 2+ years experience in an engineering manager or team‑lead role with a proven record of scaling high‑performing teams.
• 5+ years hands‑on engineering experience, especially with TypeScript services in the cloud.
• Strong product sensibility and business acumen, understanding how technical decisions impact revenue and customer satisfaction.
• Experience owning revenue‑generating platforms, API economics, and developer experience.
• Solid foundation in data engineering, metrics pipelines, and production database management.
