About the role

The Engineering Assistant I or II supports a wide range of transportation‑related engineering activities, from design and planning to construction inspection and material testing. The position includes a structured career‑development program that combines job rotation, training, and continuing education, with the goal of obtaining professional engineering licensure.

Key responsibilities

• Apply engineering principles to transportation design, construction, and maintenance projects.
• Assist with contract administration to ensure contractor compliance.
• Perform construction inspection, material sampling, and testing.
• Prepare design computations, plan sheets, and engineering calculations for plan quantities.
• Conduct field data collection, evaluation, and analysis.
• Participate in the Engineering Assistant Career Development Program, including job rotation and training.
• For Engineering Assistant II, execute advanced and specialized engineering design work.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in engineering or a related science accepted by TX PELS (or equivalent Master's/Doctoral degree).
• Willingness to pursue engineering licensure through training and exams.
• Commitment to sign and adhere to the Engineering Assistant Career Development Program agreement.
• Graduation date of August 2026 is acceptable, with proof of degree required before start date.
