Energy Engineer – Sustainable Real Estate

About the role

Altanova is seeking an inquisitive Energy Engineer to join its Sustainable Real Estate team. You will work on high‑performance building design, retrofits, and operations, helping clients achieve financial savings while meeting sustainability certifications such as LEED, WELL, and PHIUS.

Key responsibilities

• Perform energy auditing and commissioning for major renovation projects and new construction.
• Develop and refine advanced whole‑building energy models to optimize performance and support sustainability goals.
• Collaborate with design and construction teams to ensure compliance with energy codes and green building standards.
• Conduct site inspections, system testing, and performance verification, delivering insightful reports and recommendations.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Building Science, or related field (PhD optional).
• Minimum 5 years of combined experience in building systems commissioning and energy modeling.
• Professional Engineer license in New York State or willingness to obtain one within 12 months is a plus.

Required skills

• Proficiency with whole‑building energy modeling software (DesignBuilder, OpenStudio, IES‑VE, EnergyPlus, eQuest).
• Deep knowledge of building energy codes, ASHRAE standards, and LEED technical credits.
