About the role
The International Rescue Committee is seeking an Employment Specialist to join its Economic Empowerment Team in San Jose. Working under the supervision of the Employment Program Coordinator, you will help refugees secure sustainable employment and thrive financially in the United States.
Key responsibilities
- Develop and cultivate long‑term relationships with local employers to identify suitable job opportunities for clients.
- Guide clients through the hiring process, ensuring they access appropriate positions.
- Monitor job‑search activity, compliance with program policies, and post‑placement performance.
- Assist both clients and employers with any post‑placement issues and ongoing employment needs.
- Maintain accurate documentation and reporting to meet grant and donor requirements.
- Provide intake, assessment, and pre‑employment/job‑readiness orientation for eligible clients.
- Represent clients at off‑site job fairs and other employment‑related events.
- Collaborate with Economic Empowerment staff and participate in program meetings.
Required profile
- Undergraduate degree, preferably in Social Work or a related field (or equivalent work experience).
- Demonstrated experience in the human services sector, ideally within a non‑profit organization.
- Ability to manage employer relations, client case documentation, and compliance reporting.
