Emergency Department Paramedic

About the role

The Emergency Department Paramedic provides advanced life support and emergency treatment to patients in the ED of Lutheran Hospital, supporting a wide range of patient ages and conditions.

Key responsibilities

• Assess and stabilize patients experiencing medical emergencies under RN supervision.
• Obtain and record vital signs, perform EKGs, CPR, phlebotomy, and suctioning.
• Initiate cardiac monitoring, oxygen therapy, and saline locks; notify RN/physician of rhythm changes.
• Apply orthopaedic appliances, simple splints, and assist with equipment setup (chest tubes, gastric lavage, LP, etc.).
• Transport patients and specimens, assist with restraints, and maintain equipment and supply cleanliness.

Required profile

• Completion of an accredited EMS‑Paramedic training program.
• Current Ohio EMTP licensure.
• BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications (upon hire or within one year).
• Clinical experience through EMS paramedic training.

Required skills

• Emergency Medical Technician‑Paramedic (EMTP) skills.
• Basic Life Support (BLS).
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS).
• Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS).
• International Trauma Life Support (ITLS) – preferred.
• EKG performance and interpretation.
• CPR and phlebotomy.
