Embedded Software Engineer - Flight Software

About the role

Venus Aerospace develops next-generation rocket engine propulsion, including rotating detonation engines and ramjets. It is seeking an Embedded Software Engineer to help build the flight software for its avionics and flight computer systems. The role joins a small, multidisciplinary software team covering embedded systems, ground software, hardware test, HIL/V&V and enterprise software, and offers early ownership of the embedded software architecture and processes.

Key responsibilities

• Design, implement and integrate real-time embedded software for flight computers and avionics systems
• Turn system and hardware requirements into robust, maintainable and testable software
• Bring up, debug and integrate embedded systems across the hardware/software boundary
• Develop fault handling, verification and configuration management for mission-critical systems
• Build automated unit, integration and hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) tests
• Help set the embedded software architecture, tools and engineering practices, and mentor engineers as the team grows

Required profile

• 5+ years developing embedded systems for flight-related systems
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or a related field; advanced degree a plus
• Experience with modular weapons, missiles, avionics or other mission-critical architectures
• Experience with WOSA and MOSA, and with DO-178C or MIL-STD-882E compliance is a strong plus

Required skills

• C and/or C++ for resource-constrained embedded systems
• RTOS concepts, real-time systems and safety-critical software (fault handling, redundancy, state machines)
• Unit and integration testing, code coverage, CI/CD, Git and static analysis
• Preferred: FPGA code, MIL-STD-1553, RS-422/RS-485, SpaceWire, TVC, IMU and GPS work, MIL/SIL/HIL testing, JTAG/SWD debugging, GitLab pipelines, Jira and Confluence
