Electrical Engineer - Unmanned Systems

About the role

CACI is seeking an Electrical Engineer to design, integrate and advance embedded hardware and UAS technologies supporting critical defense missions. The engineer works hands-on with microcontrollers, SoCs, RF systems and UAX platforms, collaborating with cross-discipline teams on prototypes and operational systems. The position is full time, based in Aberdeen Proving Ground, with up to 25% travel within the continental US and requires a minimum Secret clearance.

Key responsibilities

• Design custom embedded hardware using microcontrollers, SoCs or FPGAs
• Reverse-engineer circuit boards and embedded systems
• Set up and work with basic embedded Linux environments
• Evaluate and integrate new technologies into embedded platforms
• Develop and integrate capabilities into small UAS/drone platforms and ground software
• Capture and analyze RF signals using SDR tools
• Document designs and communicate results in writing and presentations

Required profile

• Active Secret security clearance
• At least 5 years of relevant work experience
• BS in Electrical, Computer or related Engineering (ABET-accredited)
• Proven teamwork, technical communication and ability to work independently, and to prioritize multiple projects

Required skills

• Strong circuit troubleshooting with scopes, analyzers and meters
• Understanding of UART, SPI, I2C, CAN and control systems basics (e.g. PID)
• Programming in Python, C/C++ and/or Rust for custom firmware and tooling
• Desired: embedded system design with ARM SoCs and microcontrollers, PCB design (KiCAD preferred), reverse-engineering, Docker, cryptography and secure boot, RF/SDR (USRP, HackRF), and UAS experience (PX4/ArduPilot, MAVLink, flight dynamics)
