About the role

Commonwealth Fusion Systems is seeking an Electrical Engineer to join the Power System Team within the Electrical Power Distribution System (EPDS) group. The role focuses on designing, testing, and delivering high‑power electrical systems for the SPARC fusion project, ensuring high‑quality execution that meets technical specifications and project timelines.

Key responsibilities

  • Execute installation and testing of complex high‑power electrical systems for SPARC’s pulsed and steady‑state power architecture.
  • Develop technical requirements for vendor equipment based on simulations and power‑system analysis.
  • Create and implement test methods and qualification plans for new electrical designs.
  • Lead the release of electrical work packages, including equipment lists, drawings, and schematics.
  • Design and improve high‑power components such as switchgear, transformers, switchboards, panelboards, reactors, semiconductor devices, cooling and control systems.
  • Develop control narratives, concepts of operation, and commissioning procedures for newly developed systems.
  • Coordinate with cross‑functional teams (R&D, physics, construction, manufacturing, software, test, compliance, commissioning) to ensure all requirements are satisfied.
  • Support vendor coordination, quote procurement, and apply best electrical safety and compliance practices.

Required profile

  • 5+ years of experience with a bachelor’s degree, or a master’s degree with 2+ years, in electrical distribution or battery‑based systems.
  • Proven ability to work from concept through implementation in a fast‑paced, multidisciplinary environment.
  • Demonstrated experience contributing technically to engineering projects while collaborating within a team.
