Senior Process Engineer

About the role

Commonwealth Fusion Systems is seeking a Senior Process Engineer to lead the design, scale‑up, commissioning and operation of complex process systems for its next‑generation fusion power plants.

Key responsibilities

• Own the full process‑engineering scope for large‑scale systems from concept through design, construction, commissioning, start‑up and operation.
• Develop process concepts, design bases, operating envelopes and detailed deliverables such as PFDs, heat and material balances, utility balances, P&IDs, equipment and line lists, and process datasheets.
• Apply chemical‑engineering fundamentals—including thermodynamics, phase equilibrium, reaction engineering, and heat‑and‑mass transfer—to create commercially viable industrial solutions.
• Lead HAZOP studies, perform piping walk‑downs, support start‑up activities and troubleshoot performance issues in cryogenic, power‑generation, molten‑salt, gas‑processing and vacuum systems.

Required profile

• Deep chemical‑engineering background with experience designing, scaling, commissioning and operating process equipment in large‑industrial facilities.
• Background in sectors such as power generation, petrochemical processing, LNG, industrial gases, chemicals, air‑separation, cryogenic refrigeration, pulp & paper or similar large‑scale process industries.
• Proven ability to translate fundamental process requirements into practical industrial systems and to manage projects through Front‑End Loading to start‑up.
