About the role

The Production Technician is a core member of the manufacturing team that builds and tests superconducting magnets for fusion energy. Working the first shift (6:00 am‑3:00 pm) in a fast‑paced, high‑tech environment, you will ensure equipment runs smoothly, perform preventive maintenance, and drive continuous improvement.

Key responsibilities

  • Build a variety of electromechanical parts and assemblies according to procedures, specifications, and test instructions.
  • Collaborate with Operations, Maintenance, Quality and other departments to meet production goals.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve manufacturing discrepancies, focusing on continuous improvement.
  • Use precision tools such as torque wrenches, micrometers, calipers, and Allen keys.
  • Read and interpret assembly drawings, wiring diagrams, and detailed work instructions.
  • Operate production, testing and high‑powered magnet equipment safely.
  • Identify product problems and recommend process enhancements.

Required profile

  • High school diploma or equivalent; additional technical education is a plus.
  • Minimum 6 years experience in mechanical or electrical assembly and hand‑tool work.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lb occasionally and perform extended periods of standing, stooping, or sitting.
  • Commitment to safety in environments with heat, cold, noise, strong magnets, lead, high voltage and cryogenics.
  • Willingness to work occasional nights, weekends, on‑call shifts and travel as needed.

Required skills

  • Proficiency with hand tools, torque wrenches, micrometers, calipers, and Allen keys.
  • Mechanical and electrical assembly experience.
  • PLC programming or operation.
  • Handling of cryogenic chemicals (LN₂, Helium) in controlled environments.
  • Use of power tools, electrical schematics, and wiring diagrams.
  • Epoxy potting or injection molding.
  • Experience with plumbing, vacuum systems, soldering, and harness builds.
  • Familiarity with winding equipment and material processing (bonus).
