Electrical / Automation Engineer (Experienced Professional)

About the role

Michelin's Ardmore, Oklahoma plant makes passenger and light-truck tires and is looking for an experienced Electrical / Automation Engineer to join its Manufacturing Engineering team. The engineer leads, designs and implements automation solutions that improve safety, quality, productivity, delivery, cost and innovation, and works with cross-functional teams on smart material handling, robotics, AGV, ASRS, vision systems, machine learning and artificial intelligence. Entry-level training includes formal classes and on-the-job mentoring.

Key responsibilities

• Run pre-studies, prototypes and pilots to define requirements and the best cost-benefit solutions.
• Design, build and lead implementation projects that replace outdated systems, improve existing equipment or add new innovations.
• Implement and monitor risk mitigation actions such as calculations, simulations and tests.
• Share automation design best practices worldwide and stay current with emerging trends.
• Manage supplier, vendor and contractor relationships.
• Provide detailed electrical design and automation programming, and estimates and technical schedules for equipment additions, replacements or upgrades.
• Train plant maintenance teams on new automation systems.
• Senior level: full project management (risk, schedule, budget, resources), system approvals, qualification and validation, change request management, and supporting local technicians with troubleshooting.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, automation or a related field, or equivalent technical experience.
• Ability to set goals with minimal supervision, work in teams and show attention to detail.
• Senior level: 2-5 years in a similar role or 5-7 years in manufacturing maintenance, ability to handle multiple projects and tight deadlines, and proven project management experience.
• Preferred: technical documentation, mentoring junior engineers, and strong understanding of procurement, installation, commissioning and programming.

Required skills

• PLC programming standards and software, including GRAFCET, Ladder Logic and Structured Text; Rockwell / Allen Bradley is a must, Siemens a plus.
• Controls network interfaces and protocols, variable frequency drives and motion control; Rockwell, Siemens and Control Techniques experience a plus.
• HMI configuration, programming and communication; Rockwell experience a plus.
• CAD tools for power and controls system design.
• Preferred: vision systems (Cognex, Keyence, Adept, Bytewise, Gocator), robotics (Fanuc, Yaskawa), and AGV, ASRS and AI experience.
