Economist / Senior Economist / Economic Advisor – Financial Economics

About the role

The Economic Research Department of the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago is hiring an Economist, Senior Economist, or Economic Advisor to join its Finance team. The successful candidate will conduct independent research on financial economics, publish in top academic journals, and provide analysis for policy briefings.

Key responsibilities

• Design and execute original research projects in financial markets, institutions, corporate finance, and household finance.
• Publish findings in leading peer‑reviewed journals.
• Prepare concise briefing notes and presentations for senior Bank officials and policymakers.
• Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of economists and contribute to the Bank’s research agenda.

Required profile

• Ph.D. in Economics or a closely related field.
• Strong publication record in finance or economics journals.
• At least three years of research experience in an academic or comparable setting.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.

Required skills

• Advanced quantitative and econometric analysis.
• Proficiency with statistical software (e.g., Stata, R, MATLAB).
• Ability to translate complex research into clear policy insights.
