Economic Empowerment Intern (Unpaid)

About the role

The Economic Empowerment Intern will support the IRC’s Workforce Development Team in helping refugees and displaced persons achieve self‑sufficiency through employment. This unpaid position offers hands‑on experience in case management, employer outreach, and career services within a humanitarian nonprofit environment.

Key responsibilities

• Assist a caseload of clients with job search, resume and cover‑letter development, and interview preparation.
• Conduct one‑on‑one meetings to set employment or education goals and create individualized action plans.
• Track client interactions, progress, and outcomes in case notes and spreadsheets.
• Research local employment and vocational training opportunities in New Jersey.
• Refer clients to appropriate IRC services and external assistance programs.
• Maintain confidentiality and adhere to IRC privacy policies.

Required profile

• Prior experience or strong interest in workforce development, social services, or refugee support.
• Ability to communicate effectively with clients from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
