Earned Media Director

About the role

Climate Defiance is seeking an Earned Media Director to generate earned media coverage across print, radio, television, blogs, podcasts and other outlets. The role is fully remote within the United States, with a preference for candidates in major metropolitan areas.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and execute earned media strategies to secure coverage in diverse media channels.
• Build and maintain relationships with reporters, editors, and producers.
• Write press releases, pitch stories, and conduct interviews.
• Cold‑call TV networks and journalists to arrange coverage.
• Travel for actions and site visits as needed.

Required profile

• Collaborative, empathetic leader with strong team‑building abilities.
• Self‑starter who can execute and troubleshoot with minimal oversight.
• Commitment to racial, economic, and environmental justice and non‑violent direct action.

Required skills

• Experience generating earned media and liaising with press, especially for progressive causes.
• Proven ability to write press releases, conduct interviews, and cultivate reporter relationships.
