Distribution Project Engineer

About the role

HDR is seeking a Distribution Project Engineer to support medium‑voltage overhead and underground power system projects. You will work under the direction of project managers, applying engineering analysis and design expertise to deliver reliable electrical infrastructure.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct analyses, modeling, and calculations to develop design options for medium‑voltage systems.
• Prepare design sketches, concept drawings, and construction drawings in line with national standards, safety codes, and project specifications.
• Collaborate with designers and CAD technicians to produce detailed construction documents.
• Assist in preparing cost estimates and specifications.
• Participate in field reviews and construction observations, ensuring designs meet construction requirements.
• Perform QA/QC on work produced by other engineers or coordinators.
• Occasional short‑term travel (1‑5 days) and infrequent longer assignments as project needs dictate.

Required profile

• Minimum four years of experience in medium‑voltage or distribution‑level design.
• Graduate degree or certificate in Electrical Engineering with a focus on power systems.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred.
• Experience designing large industrial facilities and strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Attention to detail, organizational ability, and commitment to an employee‑owned culture.

Required skills

• Proficiency with engineering software such as CYMCAP, CYMEDIST, Milsoft Windmil, PLS‑Pole, SKM.
• Experience using PLS CAD, AutoCAD, Plant 3D, AutoPipe, and Revit.
• Competent in Microsoft Office suite.
