Director, Transportation & Logistics

About the role

The Director, Transportation & Logistics leads the planning, execution, and continuous improvement of all transportation and logistics activities across North America, Turkey, and expanding operations in Europe. This senior position ensures safe, cost‑effective, and reliable movement of products using multiple modes such as truck, rail, barge, bulk vessel, and containerized freight.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement multi‑modal logistics strategies to optimize operations and reduce costs.
• Negotiate contracts with carriers and service providers to secure optimal service levels and rates.
• Lead sourcing initiatives for railroads, vessel operators, trucking firms, barge carriers, terminals, and freight forwarders.
• Drive process‑streamlining projects using technology and analytics to improve efficiency.
• Oversee warehouse and inventory handling to support seamless mode transitions.
• Monitor freight costs, service quality, on‑time delivery, and compliance with regulations.
• Identify transportation risks and create mitigation plans.
• Track logistics budgets and establish KPIs for cost, transit time, and reliability.
• Mentor and develop a high‑performing logistics team across multiple regions.
• Collaborate with planning, sales, production, and finance to align logistics with business goals.

Required profile

• Proven ability to lead and develop high‑performing logistics teams in multiple geographies.
• Extensive experience in rail transportation, bulk vessel, and ocean freight logistics.
• Broad knowledge of truck, barge, container, and multimodal transportation operations.
• Strong negotiation and carrier relationship management skills.
