Director of Tax

About the role

The Director of Tax will build and lead Rowan’s tax function within the Accounting organization as the company scales its data‑center development platform and investment activities. Reporting to the Controller, the role serves as the primary internal tax resource, collaborating across Finance, Legal, Development, Construction and Economic Development.

Key responsibilities

• Establish and maintain the company’s tax framework, policies, calendars, controls and documentation.
• Provide tax input for development projects, fixed‑asset planning, REIT compliance and transaction structuring.
• Manage federal, state and local tax compliance, property tax, sales and use tax and related filings.
• Oversee external tax advisors, review recommendations and monitor tax spend.
• Support the Controller and senior leadership with tax strategy, risk assessment and commercial recommendations.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or related field; CPA strongly preferred.
• 10+ years of progressive tax experience in public accounting and corporate tax, with exposure to real‑estate, construction or energy industries.
• Hands‑on experience with REIT tax compliance, cost segregation and fixed‑asset tax strategies.
• Proven ability to build scalable processes in a fast‑growing environment.
