Director of Preconstruction – Drywall

About the role

The Director of Preconstruction will lead and modernize the estimating and preconstruction function for a top Midwest specialty contractor. This newly created senior position bridges leadership, estimating, and project delivery teams to drive efficiency, growth, and a seamless handoff to operations.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee all estimating operations, including bid selection, pricing reviews, and approvals.
• Manage pipeline and business development alignment with senior leadership.
• Define and track preconstruction KPIs such as hit rate and margin performance.
• Coach the estimating team on technical skills and business acumen.

Required profile

• 10+ years of estimating and preconstruction experience in commercial construction, preferably drywall, ACT, or building envelope trades.
• Proven ability to build or overhaul systems and teams, not just maintain them.
• Strong communication and leadership skills with the ability to build trust across ownership, field, and office teams.
• Bachelor's degree preferred, but equivalent experience will be considered.

Required skills

• Experience with estimating software such as OST, Bluebeam, PlanSwift, BuildingConnected or similar.
• Proficiency in cost modeling, bid management, and CRM tools.
