Director of Graduate Fellowships and Awards

About the role

The Director of Graduate Fellowships and Awards leads the development, administration and expansion of external and internal funding opportunities for graduate students at Georgetown University. Reporting to the Office of Graduate Studies, the role supports students across programs such as Biomedical Sciences and the Law Center in securing research fellowships, private grants and university awards.

Key responsibilities

• Design and implement strategies to increase the number and value of external awards, including government, foundation and private grants.
• Manage the internal award process, chair a faculty committee and oversee review of travel grants and the Healy awards.
• Promote funding opportunities through newsletters, website updates, social media, workshops and informational sessions.
• Develop and deliver a zero‑credit, optional summer training course on grant acquisition for graduate students.
• Serve as Project Director for federally funded fellowship programs and coordinate award management with JORA.
• Build and maintain relationships with funding agencies, government bodies and foundation program directors.

Required profile

• Proven experience managing graduate fellowship or research‑funding programs.
• Familiarity with federal and non‑federal award processes and compliance requirements.
• Ability to design and teach training modules on grant writing and award navigation.
• Strong communication and relationship‑building skills with internal faculty and external funders.
