Director of Endowment Administration & Analysis

About the role
The Director of Endowment Administration & Analysis reports to the CFO and joins the Foundation’s leadership team at the University of Maryland College Park. This senior position oversees a portfolio exceeding one billion dollars, encompassing endowments, quasi‑endowments, trusts, and annuities.
Key responsibilities
- Administer and supervise all accounting and financial functions for the endowment portfolio.
- Serve as primary liaison with financial institutions, investment managers, university relations, and donor relations.
- Provide high‑level financial analysis and interpretation for senior leadership and board members.
- Review endowment gift agreements for regulatory compliance and prepare schedules/footnotes for audited financial statements.
- Ensure timely filing of annuity reports to state agencies and maintain compliance with accounting standards and internal policies.
- Develop and update official endowment policies and procedures.
- Collaborate on cash management of endowed funds with the Assistant Treasurer.
- Monitor developments in accounting standards, investment regulations, and best practices, recommending process improvements as needed.
Required profile
- Advanced degree (e.g., MBA, MA) and CPA or CFA designation.
- Extensive experience managing large endowments ($100M+), preferably in higher education.
- Familiarity with nonprofit accounting standards (ASC 958) and gift annuity regulations.
- Proven ability to present complex financial information to non‑financial audiences.
- Exceptional attention to detail and comfort handling high‑profile situations.
- Commitment to university values and a positive, collaborative attitude.
Required skills
- CPA or CFA certification.
- Proficiency with endowment management platforms such as Endowment Resources, Investran, eFront.
- Experience with Financial Edge NXT and Workday Finance/FP&A.
- Advanced Excel skills, including complex functions, modeling, and graphing.
