Accounting and Compliance Analyst

About the role

The Accounting and Compliance Analyst supports over 150 federally funded sponsored projects at the University of Maryland Institute for Advanced Computer Studies. Using Workday and BA4 Priority, the analyst ensures accurate monthly reconciliations, compliance with federal and campus policies, and timely reporting to faculty and principal investigators.

Key responsibilities

• Reconcile and manage transactions for each account using Workday and the BA4 shadow system, maintaining accurate encumbrances.
• Serve as a compliance expert, verifying that all charges meet federal, state, and campus regulations and investigating unexpected transactions.
• Produce and distribute monthly financial reports to faculty/PIs and provide input to the business team for rapid response to low funds or account expirations.
• Evaluate and revise procedures to improve account oversight and support the institute’s sponsored project portfolio.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university (or equivalent experience).
• At least three years of professional finance, accounting, or compliance experience.
• Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and internal control practices.
• Strong oral and written communication skills and ability to prioritize multiple assignments.
