Director of Editorial Strategy

About the role

The Georgetown Center on Poverty and Inequality (GCPI) seeks a Director of Editorial Strategy to shape how research, policy, and lived experiences are turned into persuasive, accessible products. This senior position will guide editorial planning, ensure impact on policy makers and the public, and support the Center’s mission to advance understanding of poverty and economic opportunity.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and execute editorial strategies that translate complex research into clear publications, data tools, events, speeches, videos, and educational materials.
• Collaborate with policy and research staff, fellows, and external partners such as web developers, PR agencies, and graphic designers.
• Supervise 1‑2 staff or students, providing editorial guidance and developmental editing.
• Ensure all editorial products align with GCPI’s goals to inform policy, shape public conversations, and reach diverse audiences.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent experience) with 6‑8 years in editorial, journalism, public policy, communications, or related fields.
• Strong editorial judgment, writing and editing expertise, strategic thinking, and project management skills.
• Knowledge of poverty, public benefits, caregiving, tax policy, housing, or good‑jobs issues.
• Exceptional ability to translate technical or academic work into compelling, audience‑focused content.
