About the role
Arnold & Porter is seeking a Business Development Manager to support its premier transactional practices, including Bankruptcy & Restructuring, Tax, Private Client Services, Project Finance, Sovereign Finance, and Syndicated & Leveraged Finance. The role will be based in either New York or Washington, DC and will work closely with practice leaders, attorneys, and the Marketing Department.
Key responsibilities
- Partner with practice chairs to design and execute business development strategies, identify market trends and cross‑selling opportunities.
- Lead the creation of client‑focused pitches, proposals, RFP responses and coach attorneys for client meetings.
- Oversee practice marketing collateral, league tables, webinars, client events, and legal directory submissions.
- Support lateral partner integration through targeted client planning.
- Develop and manage practice budgets, evaluate ROI, and use CRM tools for client targeting and relationship management.
- Supervise and mentor business development staff, fostering a collaborative team culture.
Required profile
- Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree preferred.
- Minimum six years of marketing or business development experience, preferably in law firms, professional services, financial services, or investment banking.
- Experience supporting corporate, finance, restructuring, tax, or related transactional practices.
- Strong understanding of law‑firm business development and excellent written communication skills.
- Proven ability to manage complex projects, build credibility with senior stakeholders, and supervise team members.
Required skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite – Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
- Experience with CRM platforms (e.g., Foundation) and other marketing or financial databases.
