Director of Accounting and Finance

About the role

GFA World is seeking an experienced financial leader to serve as Director of Accounting and Finance at its international headquarters in Wills Point, Texas. The role is a senior position, acting as a strategic partner to the President and Board of Directors, leading the Accounting team, overseeing daily operations and ensuring strong internal controls and compliance with external requirements. The position is full-time and requires living and working onsite.

Key responsibilities

• Manage accounts receivable and accounts payable, and review monthly bank and credit card reconciliations and journal entries for accuracy and compliance with accounting standards.
• Oversee bi-weekly payroll and monitor cash flow and forecasts, ensuring timely deposits and accurate recording of receipts.
• Prepare periodic financial reports for senior leadership and the Board, support the annual budgeting process, coordinate the annual audit and complete required tax forms with external auditors, and maintain donor-restricted fund schedules.
• Develop and maintain accounting policies and procedures, train staff and lead the Accounting team, including mentoring, performance evaluations and continuous improvement of financial systems.
• Manage relationships with auditors, financial institutions, investment advisors and other financial partners.

Required profile

• 5 years of financial leadership and nonprofit finance experience preferred, including budgeting, forecasting and reporting.
• Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree in accounting or CPA strongly preferred.
• Demonstrated success managing operations and improving organizational systems.
• Experience in nonprofit organizations.
• Comfortable carrying independent credibility with auditors and external partners.
