Director, National Security

About the role

Umbra is seeking a Director of National Security to lead the integration of world‑class space‑based capabilities into the nation’s remote‑sensing architecture. This senior position will serve as the primary interface between Umbra and U.S. national‑security customers, shaping product roadmaps and ensuring that development, manufacturing, and operations support U.S. leadership in space.

Key responsibilities

• Grow and manage a portfolio that embeds space‑based sensors and platforms into national‑security missions.
• Lead a cross‑functional team of business development, capture, and program management professionals.
• Develop and prioritize strategic campaigns, ensuring alignment with regulatory and customer requirements.
• Deliver briefings to senior leadership and build trusted partnerships with defense and intelligence stakeholders.
• Oversee proposal development, RFI responses, and capture activities to drive organic growth.
• Provide technical oversight and risk mitigation throughout the product lifecycle.

Required profile

• Proven experience leading high‑performing teams in aerospace, defense, or related technology sectors.
• Strong communication skills with the ability to brief senior executives and negotiate with government customers.
• Deep understanding of national‑security needs and the regulatory environment governing space systems.
• Track record of delivering complex, mission‑critical programs on schedule.
