Director, Mainframe Software Engineering

About the role

Mastercard is seeking a senior technology leader to direct multiple software engineering teams that build and evolve enterprise‑scale platforms for secure, innovative payment solutions. The role blends technical vision, organizational leadership, and strategic execution.

Key responsibilities

• Lead high‑performing engineering teams to deliver secure, scalable, and resilient technology solutions aligned with business objectives.
• Define and execute engineering strategies, adopt modern development practices, and establish measurable KPIs.
• Recruit, develop, and mentor engineering talent while fostering an inclusive, collaborative culture.
• Oversee delivery of complex initiatives, drive Agile, CI/CD, and automation, and manage risks, dependencies, and resource allocation.
• Provide architectural oversight for cloud‑enabled, distributed platforms and partner with product and security teams on long‑term roadmap.

Required profile

• Significant experience leading large engineering organizations delivering enterprise‑scale applications.
• Proven ability to scale teams, build talent pipelines, and drive organizational change.
• Strong business acumen, financial insight, and stakeholder management skills.
• Excellent communication, influence, and executive presentation abilities.

Required skills

• Cloud‑native architectures, APIs, microservices, event‑driven systems.
• Large‑scale distributed, highly available systems.
• Agile, DevOps, CI/CD, automated testing, engineering productivity frameworks.
• Tools such as Jira, Rally (or equivalents) for application lifecycle management.
• System reliability, observability, security principles, and performance optimization.
