Director, Global Food Sovereignty Movements Program

About the role

WhyHunger seeks a visionary Director to lead its Global Food Sovereignty Movements Program, shaping strategy and partnerships at a pivotal moment for global food justice. This senior, remote position will guide a team, manage grants, and represent the organization on the international stage.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and execute a multi‑year strategy aligned with organizational priorities.
• Build and maintain trusted relationships with grassroots organizations, social movement leaders, and coalitions.
• Design innovative programs such as leadership cohorts, agroecology networks, and movement convenings.
• Lead a portfolio of strategic grants, overseeing due diligence, monitoring, and partner stewardship.
• Identify and deepen partnerships with global coalitions and advance advocacy on the right to food.
• Collaborate with development to secure and steward funding, and represent WhyHunger with donors.
• Partner with communications to amplify storytelling and serve as a public spokesperson.
• Supervise the Global Movements Program Manager, manage consultants, and oversee the global program budget.

Required profile

• 10+ years of progressive experience in food sovereignty, international development, philanthropy, or related fields.
• Deep understanding of global food systems, agroecology, climate justice, and Indigenous food pathways.
• Established credibility and relationships within food sovereignty or adjacent movements.
• Proven experience developing strategic partnerships and managing grantmaking portfolios.
• Demonstrated success designing and leading complex, multi‑stakeholder projects.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, including public speaking.
• Experience managing diverse staff and consultants, with ability to travel domestically and internationally.
