DevOps Engineer

About the role

The University of Miami/UHealth Department of Public Health seeks a full‑time DevOps Engineer to design, develop, test, deploy, and maintain secure, database‑driven web applications using Oracle APEX and ORDS. The role supports cancer registry staff and integrates with multiple internal and external systems.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, deploy, and maintain applications built on Oracle APEX and ORDS.
• Build and maintain PL/SQL packages, procedures, and functions; optimize complex SQL queries and indexing strategies.
• Create responsive, accessible user interfaces with HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, and jQuery.
• Integrate applications with external systems via REST/SOAP APIs, webhooks, and JSON/XML.
• Perform data modeling, schema design, and database architecture enhancements.
• Support Oracle database upgrades, migrations, cloud deployments, and ensure application security.
• Participate in code reviews, Agile/Scrum ceremonies, SDLC controls, automated testing, and CI/CD pipelines.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field.
• Minimum 2 years of relevant experience; 3+ years of full‑stack development with Oracle APEX preferred.
• Experience in healthcare or regulated data environments is a plus.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.

Required skills

• Oracle APEX, Oracle REST Data Services (ORDS), PL/SQL, Oracle Database 19c/21c.
• Complex SQL, data modeling, indexing, performance tuning.
• HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, jQuery, responsive design.
• REST/SOAP APIs, JSON, XML, web services integration.
• Git version control, Agile/Scrum, CI/CD tools (GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, Jenkins).
• Docker, Kubernetes, OCI, AWS or Azure cloud platforms.
• BI/reporting tools such as Oracle Analytics or Power BI.
