Data Scientist

About the role

The Home Depot is hiring a Data Scientist to support data science initiatives that drive business profitability, greater efficiencies and a better customer experience. The role applies advanced analytical methods to large datasets to extract business insights and solve problems, and documents developed code in a library of reusable algorithms. Depending on the team, knowledge of one or more specializations such as optimization, computer vision, recommendation, search or NLP is needed. The position typically reports to a manager or above, has no direct reports and involves little overnight travel.

Key responsibilities

• Design and develop algorithms and models on large datasets to create business insights, and act as technical lead on analytics projects while leading smaller ones independently
• Present insights and recommendations to technical and non-technical leaders and partners, and prepare reports and presentations
• Work with business partners and cross-functional teams to define project goals and build trust
• Keep improving data science and analytics by documenting solutions and maintaining a library of reusable, documented algorithms

Required profile

• Age 18 or older and legally permitted to work in the United States
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent in a field related to the job
• Preferred: master's degree in a quantitative field (Computer Science, Math, Statistics) or equivalent experience
• Preferred: 4+ years in business intelligence and analytics, and 3 years of work experience

Required skills

• Preferred: modern scripting language (Python)
• Preferred: querying data with Google BigQuery or SQL
• Preferred: data visualization tools such as Tableau
• Preferred: statistical techniques, predictive modeling, data mining and data analysis
• Preferred: prescriptive modeling (optimization, computer vision, recommendation, search, NLP)
