Senior Manager, Data Science - Online

About the role

The Home Depot is hiring a Senior Manager, Data Science for its online business. The manager leads a team of data scientists (individual contributors, technical experts and people managers) so that their work drives business profitability, greater efficiency and a better customer experience. The role balances ongoing data science research and learning with business needs, provides executive summaries to all levels of the organization and helps align strategies and manage talent across Data Science Managers.

Key responsibilities

• People management and team leadership (about 50%): mentor and coach direct reports, support the Data Science Director's vision, attract and develop talent, build onboarding and training plans, foster collaboration and ensure best practices are used.
• Program management (about 15%): prioritize and assign projects, manage programs for consistent execution and quality, act as escalation point and give executive updates on program effectiveness and findings.
• Strategy and business development (about 25%): use business knowledge and relationships to find new opportunities, build trust with internal customers and cross-functional teams, and collaborate with other data science managers on strategy and talent.
• Technical exploration and development (about 10%): follow developments in data science and data sources, improve data science and analytics with replicable solutions such as codified data products and process flowcharts, and promote best practices in data analysis and model production.

Required profile

• Age 18 or older and legally permitted to work in the United States.
• Demonstrated experience translating high-level strategy into tactical execution.
• Preferred: 11+ years of experience in business intelligence and analytics, previous people or project team management experience, and a bachelor's degree or equivalent.

Required skills

• Proficiency in predictive modeling, data mining and data analysis.
• Ability to guide junior team members through data science fundamentals.
• Preferred: query languages such as Google BigQuery or SQL, data visualization tools such as Tableau, statistical techniques, prescriptive modeling (optimization, computer vision, recommendation, search or NLP).
