Senior Cloud Engineer (Azure)

About the role

A full-time, remote Senior Cloud Engineer with strong hands-on experience in cloud infrastructure and automation using Microsoft Azure is sought for a U.S. client. You will work with development teams to improve cloud infrastructure, deployment automation, infrastructure-as-code and self-service engineering capabilities. The client, founded in 2003, turns a restaurant POS terminal into an integrated operational management system used by over 7,000 locations.

Key responsibilities

• Design, build and improve Azure infrastructure and its supporting automation.
• Build reusable GitHub Actions workflows, deployment pipelines and self-service engineering tools.
• Develop and maintain infrastructure-as-code with Bicep and Terraform.
• Automate infrastructure and operational workflows with PowerShell, Azure CLI, APIs and application code where appropriate.
• Take existing infrastructure and automation from proof-of-concept or incomplete states to production-ready completion.
• Work with development teams to understand their applications, infrastructure needs and deployment models, and help them solve cloud, networking, identity and deployment issues without taking operational ownership away from the teams.
• Support Azure tenant, subscription and workload migrations with application teams.
• Establish repeatable patterns for provisioning databases, application infrastructure, networking, DNS, identity and configuration.
• Improve deployments through Octopus Deploy, and work with Cloudflare, Terraform and related tooling to improve DNS, routing, TLS, load balancing and application connectivity.
• Assist with gradually simplifying and cleaning up a smaller AWS footprint, and recommend pragmatic technical approaches.

Required profile

• Excellent English communication skills.
• 5+ years of experience with Microsoft Azure.
• Strong understanding of Azure architecture and common Azure services.
• Practical Azure networking experience (VNETs, subnets, NSGs, DNS, VPNs, private endpoints, public/private connectivity, firewalls).
• Experience with Azure SQL, Azure PaaS and container-based application hosting.
• Ability to understand existing infrastructure and deployment environments, and to research unfamiliar technologies independently.
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills, and clear communication with software engineers and senior technical staff.

Required skills

• Azure subscriptions, resource groups, RBAC, Microsoft Entra ID, managed identities, service principals and Key Vault.
• Infrastructure-as-code with Bicep, Terraform, ARM templates or similar.
• GitHub Actions or comparable CI/CD automation.
• Scripting in PowerShell, C# or Python.
• Desired: Octopus Deploy, C#/.NET, Azure Container Apps, Cloudflare, Terraform-based Cloudflare management, Datadog, AWS, mixed-cloud migration, GitHub APIs, developer-facing infrastructure tooling.
