Data Science Manager, Customer Experience

About the role

The Data Science Manager leads a team of data scientists (individual contributors) whose work drives business profitability, greater efficiency and a better customer experience. The manager leads programs, partners with project teams and business partners, mentors and coaches team members, and provides executive summaries to all levels of the organization. The role sits in the Store Support Center and typically reports to a Senior Manager or above.

Key responsibilities

• People management: lead, mentor and coach data scientists, evaluate performance, attract and retain talent, develop onboarding and training plans, document processes and manage resources
• Project management: prioritize and assign projects, manage programs for consistency and quality, act as escalation point and give executive updates on program effectiveness and findings
• Strategy and business development: identify new opportunities to use data science, build trust with internal customers and cross-functional teams, align with IT support, tools and governance, and collaborate with other data science managers
• Technical exploration: follow developments in data science, improve analytics by creating replicable solutions and codified data products, and promote best practices for model productionization

Required profile

• Age 18 or older and legally permitted to work in the United States
• Preferred: 9+ years of experience in business intelligence and analytics, and 8 years preferred
• Preferred: previous people or project team management experience
• Preferred: demonstrated ability to manage and grow team members
• Education: bachelor's degree or equivalent in a related field

Required skills

• Preferred: expertise in predictive modeling, data mining and data analysis
• Preferred: query mastery, preferably with Google BigQuery or SQL
• Preferred: data visualization, preferably Tableau
• Preferred: statistical techniques and prescriptive modeling such as optimization, computer vision, recommendation, search or NLP
