Dairy Clerk

About the role

Hy-Vee is hiring a Dairy Clerk in its Plymouth store. The clerk rotates and replenishes dairy merchandise while keeping quality standards high, and provides courteous, friendly and efficient customer service. The position is non-exempt and reports to the District Store Director, Store Manager and Assistant Managers.

Key responsibilities

• Provide prompt, friendly customer service: greet customers, learn their names, escort them to products, load or unload heavy items and answer the telephone.
• Rotate and replenish merchandise, face merchandise and build end-cap displays.
• Unload trucks and place product in the right storage area, keeping the area organized, the floor dry and the temperature correct.
• Clean cases and sweep the floor, and keep the department tidy.
• Order product requested by the department manager and take part in monthly and quarterly physical inventories.
• Follow department and company guidelines on hygiene, dress and safety, and report to work on time.

Required profile

• Less than high school education or equivalent, with six months or less of similar or related experience.
• Able to solve practical problems, follow verbal or demonstrated instructions, and do simple addition and subtraction.
• Physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds frequently and 10 pounds constantly, and to climb, balance, kneel, reach, stand, walk, push, pull and lift.
• Visual acuity within 20 inches to 20 feet, with or without correction.

Working conditions

• Fast-paced environment with continuous exposure to noise and temperature extremes, and frequent dirt and dampness.
• Daily contact with suppliers, vendors and customers.
• Uses equipment such as a pallet jack, milk dollies, ice cream carts, a box cutter and a cash register.

The anticipated starting hourly wage is $13.00 to $16.25 depending on experience. Employment is contingent on a pre-employment drug screen.
