Customer Service Representative, Patient Registration

About the role

R1 RCM Inc., a revenue cycle technology company, is hiring a Customer Service Representative for Patient Registration at Ascension St. Agnes Hospital in Baltimore. You will help patients check into the hospital, answering questions during registration and building trust by collecting information accurately and quickly while listening with compassion. No previous healthcare experience is needed, as training is provided.

Key responsibilities

• Work on computers and answer phones to intake patient information in a busy environment, across multiple screens, between physician and nurse check-ins
• Collect patient and insurance information accurately and quickly, working around clinicians interrupted by emergent clinical care
• Listen carefully to anxious or very ill patients, ask follow-up questions and build rapport in real time
• Handle fast-paced, varied situations with many different health plans and coverage types

Required profile

• High School Diploma or GED
• Excellent customer service, communication and interpersonal skills
• Strong composure and professionalism in a fast-paced environment
• Ability to multitask, prioritize quickly and pay close attention to detail
• Comfortable seeing illness and injuries in a hospital setting
• Must pass a background check, drug test and meet vaccination requirements before hire

Required skills

• Touch typing and quick study of technology
• Experience with patient access, medical registration, insurance verification or front desk is a plus (not required)
