Cryptologic Linguist (Multiple Languages)

About the role

Translation Excellence, Inc. is seeking experienced Cryptologic Linguists to support its U.S. government customer across multiple locations nationwide. The position is contingent upon a contract award. Linguists will handle written and oral materials in several languages, with priority areas including Arabic, Chinese-Mandarin, Chinese-Cantonese, Farsi, Korean, Pashto, Russian and Somali.

Key responsibilities

• Translate and transcribe written and oral communications into English, including hardcopy, electronic and multimedia material
• Produce gists, extracts, full and verbatim transcripts and summaries
• Perform final quality control on translations made by other linguists
• Translate audio and document material while preserving the original meaning
• Transcribe speech into the native language or a machine-compatible transliteration system
• Scan foreign-language material and assign disposition codes per established guidance
• Draft SIGINT reports as required
• Create candidate database entries, maintain language dictionaries, target folders, eWS tools and profiles
• Analyze material on its own or in relation to other source information
• Share language expertise with government and contractor analysts, including mentoring

Required profile

• Active TS/SCI clearance with polygraph
• Extensive cryptologic/SIGINT and quality-control experience, junior to expert level, equivalent to 2-15+ years
• Bachelor's degree in a related field from an accredited institution preferred
• Foreign-language proficiency of 3/3 in English and target language (DLPT/PQE scores within the last year waive testing); some positions may require only 2/2
• Willingness and ability to pass a full-scope polygraph
• Ability to work largely independently and in a mixed environment of multi-service personnel, DoD civilians and contractors

Required skills

• Excellent command of English grammar, constructions and syntax, and of the target language
• Understanding of the geopolitical, regional, ethnic and cultural context of the language
• Knowledge of idioms, colloquialisms and slang
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office products
