Cost Accountant (Hybrid)

About the role

aFit Staffing Inc. is recruiting a hands-on Cost Accountant for a fast-paced manufacturing environment in the Indianapolis area, with a hybrid arrangement. The role takes ownership of all cost accounting functions and acts as a business partner to both finance and operations, working with manufacturing, engineering and purchasing teams to drive informed decisions through accurate costing, analysis and process improvement.

Key responsibilities

• Lead cost accounting processes and support business decisions with analytical insight
• Own product costing, standard cost development and variance analysis
• Maintain and improve Bills of Material (BOMs) and routing data in the ERP system
• Analyze labor, material and overhead variances and support inventory valuation, reserves and month-end close
• Prepare account analyses, journal entries and general ledger reconciliations
• Partner with Manufacturing Engineering, Design Engineering and Purchasing on make-versus-buy evaluations and cost reduction initiatives
• Assist with new product costing and margin analysis
• Monitor inventory accuracy, support cycle counts and strengthen cost-related internal controls
• Improve costing accuracy, reporting and data quality through ERP use, and develop reports on margins and product costs

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field
• Direct cost accounting experience in a manufacturing environment
• Ability to work independently and manage broad responsibilities
• Experience partnering with engineering and operations teams
