Corporate Counsel – Legal Department

About the role

ESPN’s Legal Department is seeking a Counsel to support the Deputy Chief Counsel, Assistant Chief Counsel and other attorneys. The role focuses on a broad range of legal matters including programming acquisitions, production agreements, marketing, digital media, and direct‑to‑consumer offerings.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of federal, state and local laws and industry standards that affect ESPN.
• Draft, review and negotiate contracts and other legal documents with internal stakeholders and external parties.
• Provide legal advice on content, intellectual property, marketing, promotion and digital media matters.
• Keep internal clients informed of legal risks and recommend risk‑mitigation strategies.
• Manage outside counsel for litigation and other legal matters.
• Supervise paralegal and legal assistant staff on a non‑exclusive basis.
• Participate in professional associations, seminars and conferences as requested.

Required profile

• At least 2 years of contract law experience with extensive drafting, either transactional or litigation.
• Strong understanding of content licensing, audiovisual programming, intellectual property, marketing and digital media law.
• Ability to communicate complex legal issues clearly to non‑legal stakeholders.
• Willingness to work on‑site in Bristol, CT (or consider New York, NY).
