Copywriter

About the role

The Home Depot is hiring a Copywriter who develops new copy for web and traditional print channels, including promotional emails, online digital ads, direct mail, SMS and app messages. Accuracy, editorial consistency and correct brand positioning are top priorities. The writer partners with creative managers, designers, vendors, agency partners, merchants and production specialists, and reports to the Manager, Creative.

Key responsibilities

• Write and proofread promotional, editorial and product copy for assigned categories and media channels, researching industry standards, vendors and competitors to match brand standards.
• Ensure copy is accurate and complies with corporate and federal/state regulations, working with creative staff, marketing/project managers and agencies.
• Negotiate with marketing and merchants on focus and content so the message stays consistent with strategy and leadership vision across channels.
• Manage projects to meet deadlines, using analytical and problem-solving skills to improve processes.

Required profile

• Age 18 or older and legally permitted to work in the United States.
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent in a field related to the job.
• Preferred: experience creating, editing and proofing copy in at least two of print, OLA, social, email or web; previous retail experience with designers and production specialists.
• Preferred: 3 years of work experience.

Required skills

• Working knowledge of Mac OS, Microsoft Office, InDesign or similar desktop publishing program.
• CMS and editing software, Adobe CS, HTML5, JavaScript and Flash are a plus.
• Strong communication skills, strategic brainstorming, campaign development and creative brief execution.
• Ability to handle multiple projects, manage workload and stay adaptable to change.
