About the role
The Coordinator of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) leads the CPE Level I, Level II, and Certified Educator Candidacy programs at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital. Working closely with the Director of Mission and Pastoral Care, the role ensures high‑quality professional training for chaplain residents and interns within a Catholic, Jesuit, and interfaith context.
Key responsibilities
- Supervise and administer all CPE programs, maintaining compliance with ACPE accreditation standards.
- Develop curriculum, oversee clinical placements, and evaluate the performance of approximately 11 chaplain residents, interns, and a senior CEC resident.
- Provide educational opportunities, mentorship, and pastoral counseling to students throughout their training.
- Collaborate with hospital leadership, the Professional Advisory Committee, and ACPE‑certified supervisors to align program goals.
- Assist the department with on‑unit pastoral care, liturgical services, and sacramental needs in accordance with Catholic identity and Ignatian values.
- Maintain documentation, reporting, and accreditation records required by the Association of Clinical Pastoral Education.
Required profile
- Master’s level theological degree (Master of Divinity preferred) and certification as an ACPE Educator or Associate.
- Minimum three years of clinical chaplaincy experience with proven CPE supervision.
- Ordination or commissioning by a recognized religious group and current ecclesiastical endorsement.
- Strong relational and pastoral counseling abilities, with a commitment to the Jesuit principle of cura personalis.
- Ability to motivate and support diverse students in an interfaith clinical environment.
