Controls Engineer - Estimation, Programming and Commissioning

About the role

This role covers the estimation, programming, engineering, commissioning and start-up of controls projects in the region, as well as after-sales service and training for sales and technical teams. Working under general supervision, you will collaborate with project teams, design detailed controls systems, program control sequences, create estimates and graphics, train technicians and support product launches.

Key responsibilities

• Ensure timely completion of controls projects, including commissioning, programming, start-up, site database development, graphical interfaces, testing, documentation, reporting and operator training.
• Review control project estimates and engineering deliverables for regional projects to ensure technical accuracy and feasibility.
• Coordinate controls projects through work plans developed with the Project Manager for start-up and commissioning.
• Support project take-off, scope definition and cost estimation, and develop standardized controls routines.
• Evaluate products, system designs and cost structures and recommend improvements.
• Support prototype test programs, analyze test data and generate compliance reports.
• Deliver technical training for sales teams, technicians, clients and project personnel.
• Manage the Miami office controls laboratory, maintain equipment and software, and run technical demonstrations and training sessions.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in engineering, preferably Electrical, Mechanical, Control Systems or a related field; American visa required.
• Formal coursework in measurement systems, heat transfer, thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, machine design and strength of materials preferred.
• Excellent verbal and written communication, ability to multitask and work cooperatively with laboratory, design and product marketing teams.

Required skills

• Knowledge of electrical schematics and instrumentation used in control systems.
• MS Office, AutoCAD or Visio, EC-NET, Distech GFX, Niagara and other automation applications.
• Niagara certification or certification in another BAS automation platform.
• Fundamentals of instrumentation (RTDs, thermocouples, pressure transducers, flow meters, analog/digital data acquisition).
