Controller – Financial Leader

About the role

We are looking for a Controller to serve as a key financial leader for our Oakland‑based organization. The role directs accounting operations, ensures GAAP‑compliant reporting, and supports strategic financial planning.

Key responsibilities

• Direct all accounting functions across the organization, including subsidiaries.
• Lead, develop, and mentor the accounting team to maintain high performance.
• Oversee monthly, quarterly, and year‑end close processes and prepare financial statements.
• Establish, refine, and enforce internal controls to safeguard assets and improve reporting accuracy.
• Ensure compliance with GAAP, regulatory, tax, and financial requirements.
• Partner with external auditors and tax advisors to coordinate audits and filings.
• Review and approve journal entries, reconciliations, and financial outputs.
• Analyze financial results, KPIs, and operational metrics to provide insights.
• Lead the annual budgeting process and monitor performance against budget.
• Oversee accounts receivable and payable processes and manage departmental budgets.
• Define performance expectations, conduct reviews, and drive team development.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in accounting and financial reporting, with strong knowledge of GAAP.
• Proven ability to lead and mentor an accounting team.
• Experience managing month‑end, quarter‑end, and year‑end close cycles.
• Demonstrated expertise in establishing internal controls and ensuring regulatory compliance.
• Track record of coordinating external audits and tax filings.
• Strong analytical skills to interpret financial results and provide actionable recommendations.
• Experience leading budgeting and long‑term financial planning processes.
• Ability to oversee accounts receivable, accounts payable, and departmental budgeting.
