Control Operator Trainer (Internal Applicants)

About the role

The Control Operator Trainer is responsible for delivering comprehensive training to new and existing staff within the 911 Center, covering law‑enforcement, fire, and EMS control operations. The role also functions as an on‑floor control operator, handling emergency and non‑emergency communications.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct classroom instruction, on‑the‑job training, in‑service and remedial sessions for control operators.
• Identify training needs, schedule sessions, and maintain accurate training records.
• Evaluate trainee performance and provide remediation when required.
• Process emergency and non‑emergency requests via telephone, radio, or in person.
• Enter and manage data in CAD, VESTA, mapping, EMSystem, and related platforms.
• Operate specialized equipment such as Motorola MC7500, CJIS associate systems, wrecker ordering systems, and records management databases.
• Maintain required certifications and uphold confidentiality at all times.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum two years experience as a Control Operator with the Metropolitan Emergency Services Agency.
• Ability to work in an office environment, sit at a desk for extended periods, and lift light objects (5‑10 lb).
• Strong auditory and visual perception for monitoring communications.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Computer‑Aided Dispatch (CAD) systems.
• Experience operating Motorola MC7500 radios.
• Knowledge of VESTA telephone and mapping platforms.
• Familiarity with EMSystem and CJIS associate systems.
• Use of wrecker ordering and records management database systems.
