Consumer Access Specialist ED PRN

About the role

AdventHealth is hiring a Consumer Access Specialist for its emergency department in Wesley Chapel, Florida, on a PRN basis. The role handles patient access, billing and insurance coordination, working alongside utilization management staff.

Key responsibilities

• Perform Medicare compliance reviews and issue Advance Beneficiary Notices of Noncoverage as needed.
• Create accurate estimates for patient financial responsibility and collect payments or set up payment plans.
• Coordinate with utilization management staff on pre-authorization issues and make sure patients have the right logistical information.
• Contact insurance companies to verify eligibility and benefits and obtain pre-authorizations within the required timeframes.
• Register patients for all services accurately and minimize duplication of medical records.

Required profile

• High school graduate or equivalent (required); associate degree preferred.
• 1+ year of customer service experience preferred; 1+ year of relevant healthcare experience preferred; 1+ year of revenue cycle experience preferred.
• Certified Healthcare Access Associate (CHAA) or Certified Revenue Cycle Rep (CRCR) preferred.
• Mature judgment in dealing with patients, physicians and insurance representatives.

Required skills

• Working knowledge of Microsoft programs and familiarity with database programs.
• Ability to operate general office equipment such as computer, fax machine, printer and scanner.
• Ability to learn and perform multiple tasks and organize work systematically and efficiently.
• Professional verbal and written communication.
