Construction Materials Technician

About the role

WSP's Engineered Construction team in Charlotte, NC is seeking Construction Materials Testing Technicians to perform field inspections and testing on commercial, industrial, and transportation construction projects. The role involves ensuring compliance with project specifications and delivering accurate test data.

Key responsibilities

• Perform soil density testing using nuclear gauge and sand cone methods per ASTM standards.
• Sample and test concrete in accordance with ASTM specifications.
• Prepare and submit daily field reports summarizing activities, density calculations, and test results.
• Inspect footings, rebar, and proof rolls, and operate dynamic cone penetrometer equipment.
• Interact with client representatives such as supervisors, foremen, project managers, and engineers on site.

Required profile

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum 3 years of related experience in construction materials testing.
• Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
• Ability to work outside normal business hours and in variable outdoor conditions.
• Pass physical examination, background check, and maintain a clean driving record.

Required skills

• Soil density testing (nuclear gauge, sand cone).
• Concrete sampling and testing per ASTM.
• Dynamic cone penetrometer operation.
• Basic proficiency with Microsoft Excel.
• Interpretation of project plans and specifications.
