Concept Designer 2 - Advanced Concepts

About the role

Techtronic Industries, a global leader in cordless technology covering power tools, outdoor power equipment, floor care appliances and accessories, has an open Engineering position in its Advanced Concepts group at its Anderson, SC office. Advanced Concepts is an interdisciplinary innovation group of designers and engineers in the Power Tool division, working on concepts for brands such as RYOBI and RIDGID. You will collaborate with other team members, as well as engineering, industrial design, analytical and project management groups, to deliver functional prototypes that can be evaluated for feasibility or concept recommendations for later product development.

Key responsibilities

• Ideate and create prototypes that demonstrate future solutions for future product needs.
• Ideate and create demos showcasing the products' performance and features.
• Work with a cross-functional team including Industrial Designers, Mechanical and Electrical Engineers.
• Build and manage budget, schedule and quality expectations to meet key milestones.
• Communicate technical details and concepts to both technical and non-technical team members.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Design, Product Design or a related field.
• 3+ years of experience in product design, concept development and functional prototyping.
• Demonstrated experience developing functional prototypes integrating mechanical, electrical and software components.
• Hands-on experience with rapid prototype fabrication methods.
• Proficiency with embedded electronics and controls, including Arduino, Raspberry Pi, sensors, motors and related hardware integration.
• Experience using test and measurement equipment for vibration, sound, environmental and durability testing.
• Knowledge of user-centered design, including customer research, observational studies, usability testing and iterative concept refinement.

Required skills

• Advanced 3D CAD modeling.
• Software: Office, NX, SolidWorks, Altium, Photoshop, Microsoft Project.
• Rapid prototyping across varying materials and processes.
• Familiarity with electrical and mechanical systems such as motors, microcontrollers and batteries.
