Principal Product Designer, Jira
Atlassian · San Francisco
Job description
About the role
Atlassian is looking for a Principal Product Designer for Jira, its flagship product in the Teamwork Collection app suite. The Jira Design team aims to turn Jira into the modern choice for work management, and this role reports to a Senior Design Manager. It is a high-level individual contributor position leading and executing visionary work across Jira, with a remote option available.
Key responsibilities
- Mentor the Jira design team, lead strategic initiatives, set a cohesive vision and manage interconnected projects so Jira feels designed by one hand.
- Own the entire design process, defining end-to-end product experiences and user journeys rather than isolated features.
- Work with engineers, product managers, content designers, researchers, brand and marketing experts and analysts to advocate for the user experience.
- Integrate AI into Jira workflows and collaboration, and design journeys and patterns that modernise Jira's design language and unify it with Rovo and 1P/3P agentic workflows.
- Partner with leadership and stakeholders to define a unified vision for modern work management, and lead design projects from concept to delivery.
- Define success metrics and identify opportunities to improve apps and the platform and to advance AI-native product evolution.
Required profile
- 9+ years of end-to-end product design experience leading visual, UX and conceptual UI craft across complex enterprise software.
- Demonstrated experience shaping AI-native processes, workflows and agentic systems, including third-party agents and MCP integrations.
- Experience leading end-to-end UX and product design for ambiguous, strategic problems.
- Experience conducting and applying customer research, including design thinking, prototyping and conceptual modelling.
- Ability to balance customer needs with business goals, market viability and technical feasibility, and strong facilitation and cross-functional leadership skills.
Required skills
- Specialist UI craft and visual design execution.
- Advanced prototyping, including complex configurations and technical integrations.
- Program definition, stakeholder engagement, change management and negotiation of complex trade-offs.
What we offer
- Base pay for new hires depending on location: Zone A $221,400-$289,050, Zone B $199,260-$260,145, Zone C $183,762-$239,912.
- Possible eligibility for benefits, bonuses, commissions and equity.
- Health and wellbeing resources and paid volunteer days among other perks.
