Communications Specialist – Storytelling & Content Producer

About the role

The University of Miami’s Office of University Communications is seeking a full‑time Communications Specialist to join the School of Nursing and Health Sciences (SONHS) in Coral Gables. The specialist will serve as the primary storyteller for the unit, creating and curating content that highlights faculty, students, research, and program achievements across both unit and enterprise channels.

Key responsibilities

• Write, edit, and produce news stories, feature articles, faculty and student profiles, research highlights, and award coverage.
• Act as the unit’s editorial lead, ensuring all communications meet enterprise standards for accuracy and quality.
• Maintain and update the unit’s website content using the enterprise CMS, monitoring engagement and requesting new builds through the intake process.
• Produce owned publications such as magazines, newsletters, and annual report content in partnership with the Creative Studio.
• Manage day‑to‑day social‑media activity for approved accounts, including planning, posting, monitoring, and responding to audience engagement.
• Provide writing support for faculty and leadership on award nominations, grant narratives, and other high‑stakes institutional documents.
• Support internal communications for the Dean or Unit Lead, including announcements, town‑hall messaging, and event promotion.

Required profile

• Strong writing and editorial judgment with a keen eye for detail.
• Experience producing content for both web and print formats.
• Ability to work closely with faculty, students, and senior leaders to gather stories and insights.
• Familiarity with enterprise content management and social‑media governance standards.
• Collaborative mindset to partner with enterprise marketing, communications, and creative teams.
