Communications Specialist – Digital Storytelling & Consumer Education

About the role

The State of Hawaii Department of Commerce and Consumer Affairs is seeking a Communications Specialist to lead digital storytelling and consumer‑education initiatives. You will translate complex regulatory information into engaging content that resonates with Hawaii residents across multiple platforms.

Key responsibilities

• Plan, create, and evaluate consumer‑education campaigns on topics such as fraud awareness, licensing verification, and consumer rights.
• Develop and execute day‑to‑day social‑media strategy, including drafting, designing, scheduling, and monitoring posts on Facebook, Instagram, the department website, and emerging platforms.
• Produce original multimedia assets—graphics, short‑form videos, reels, infographics, and photography—for digital channels.
• Collaborate with the Communications Office to support broader departmental communication needs and media inquiries.

Required profile

• Self‑directed communicator with a passion for public service and consumer protection.
• Ability to simplify technical regulatory content for a general audience.
• Experience managing content across social‑media and website platforms.
