Communications and Stakeholder Engagement Project Manager

About the role

Atwell, a consulting, engineering and construction firm serving real estate, land development and energy markets, is looking for a Communications and Stakeholder Engagement Project Manager. The role leads client-facing communications and engagement work for projects with community, permitting, regulatory or reputational considerations, manages projects from scoping through delivery, advises clients on engagement strategy and coordinates with technical teams.

Key responsibilities

• Lead multiple client projects from scope development through completion, managing work plans, budgets, schedules, staffing, deliverables and client expectations.
• Serve as the day-to-day client contact, keeping clients informed and helping them identify project needs.
• Coordinate multidisciplinary teams and monitor progress and financial performance, documenting decisions and action items.
• Develop and run communications and stakeholder engagement strategies, assess stakeholder interests and public sentiment, and advise clients on timing, messaging and approach.
• Plan and run public meetings, community open houses, workshops and interviews, and prepare engagement plans, presentations, FAQs, talking points and notices.
• Support permitting and approval processes through public engagement and hearing preparation.
• Contribute to proposals, scopes of work, schedules and fee estimates, and help identify opportunities to expand services.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in communications, public relations, public affairs, political science, planning, emergency management, business or a related field.
• Six or more years of relevant experience in communications, stakeholder engagement, public affairs, community relations, emergency services, project management or a related field.
• Demonstrated experience leading client-facing communications or engagement projects and managing scope, budgets, schedules and client relationships.
• Experience planning and running meetings, workshops and public engagement events.
• Willingness and ability to travel nationally, including occasional overnight travel, with a valid driver's license.

Preferred qualifications

• Experience with energy, utilities, environmental, infrastructure, land development, real estate, oil and gas or other projects with community or permitting considerations.
• Experience with community consultation, permitting support, external risk assessment or public affairs.
• Experience leading multidisciplinary teams and stakeholder-facing initiatives.
• Master's degree or relevant certifications in project management, public participation, communications, facilitation or emergency management.
