Commercial Counsel – Go-to-Market

About the role

Canva is seeking a Commercial Counsel to join its Commercial Legal team and work closely with go‑to‑market (GTM) groups. The lawyer will support high‑volume commercial agreements across Enterprise, Public Sector, Higher Education and strategic partnerships, ensuring deals progress quickly while managing risk.

Key responsibilities

• Review, draft and negotiate commercial agreements with customers, vendors and partners.
• Support contracting for government and public‑sector customers, handling procurement, regulatory and specific contracting frameworks.
• Negotiate flow‑down terms for reseller and channel transactions.
• Provide timely legal advice to Sales, Finance and other stakeholders.
• Monitor relevant laws, regulations and industry standards such as data‑privacy and emerging AI rules.
• Develop and maintain contract templates, playbooks and escalation guides, and deliver training to enable faster routine commercial work.
• Identify and implement improvements to contracting processes, workflows and tools.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional partners including Product, Security and Privacy Legal.

Required profile

• Hands‑on experience reviewing and negotiating a variety of contracts in a fast‑paced technology company.
• Experience with government and public‑sector SaaS transactions.
• Proactive attitude, strong business sense and ability to assess and mitigate legal risk.
• Curiosity about the business and industry, and willingness to roll up sleeves.

Required skills
